Peter Tessier: Anatomy of a Goal(s) Hemsky vs Trouba & Little After reading Matt's glowing review of Hemsky's effort to score I thought I would show how the same player set his team up to lose.

The Smyth - Hall - Hemsky line is a terrible idea, and Ryan Smyth needs to retire be handed a BS made-up "job" within the Oilers organization... Cause we all know it'll happen. You're too slow, Ryan!!! You've got no gas left in the tank, and you're going to constantly be a liability out there! Go away!!

edit: dammit, i just read Peter's comment to Matt in the Oiler's blog. It's only friendly banter that is happening. Both were good reads in the end.

I agreed with both of your articles. matt picks a point where the jets faltered and you pick a couple where the oil were brutal... But the main issue that i'll admit, has been touched on, is that no NHL calibre goalie should let in the trouba slap shot from the point. The game should never have been tied in the first place! the scheiffle goal was a great shot but dubnyk is way out of the net to his short side.. Not taking anytyhing away from scheiffle. Just point out 3 terrible goals dubnyk let in that cost them the game.
1) scheiffle goal
2)brian little's goal - Albeit nice dangle quite similar to the hemsky goal- But there was no screen and wasn't a terrible hard shot. Dubnyk has to make that save.
3)the trouba goal - worst goal all night on dubnyk.. hard shot or not if you can't stop a blast from the blue line with no screen, go back to the ECHL....

That game had more warts than roses in my opinion. And I agree with what Matt wrote but I recalled a few other things happening of note. Many of the goals were possible because of players like Ladd and Hemsky just not doing things very well.

Good analysis. When Hemmer scored that goal, I was so angry with our team D. Seems like not much has changed from last year in this regard. Hopefully they can start playing good stretches of games of playing disciplined hockey, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I agree there's not a lot of Jets fans on the site, but I think its because we're so inundated with Jets news, and blogs from some of the main outlets (newspapers, local tv networks, radio) with Jets coming back. Most of what they have to say is pretty bland, and I appreciate some of the stuff Tessier has put out. I think a lot of Jets fans will start looking for better blogs soon and we'll see more people comment on here.
